Hong Kong International Airport is located on the island of Chen Lap Kok in western Hong Kong and about 35 km (21.8 mi) from the city.T The airport opened on July 6, 1998. It replaced the former Hong Kong International Airport (commonly known as Kai Tak Airport) built in 1925.
