Deutsche Lufthansa is part of the Lufthansa Group, a major European airline that was founded on January 6, 1953 in Cologne as ‚Aktiengesellschaft für Luftverkehrsbedarf (Luftag). Its headquarters are in Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Originally it was founded in 1926 as Deutsche Luft Hansa A.G. in Berlin but terminated in 1945 following the defeat of Nazi Germany.
