2024 – Aborted Takeoff at ZRH airport

14.08.2024, Zurich-Airport: At around 110 knots (around 203 km/h), the pilot decided to abort the take-off on runway 16 after a suspected bird strike hit the aircraft. The Swiss Airbus A330-343 with the registration HB-JHH came to a standstill at the intersection of today’s two active runways 16 and 28. The fire department was already on site a short time later to bring any fires caused by overheating brakes, wheels or engine failure under control. However, this aborted take-off did not result in any such interventions. Nevertheless, the Airbus 330, which was actually scheduled to take off as flight number LX 6 to Chicago, remained on the runway cross for around 40 minutes, which resulted in correspondingly long delays on departure at Zurich Airport. After 40 minutes, a tug towed the aircraft to the Delta stands, where Swiss maintenance staff took a closer look at the aircraft.

It appears that the same plane took off from Zurich some 2.5 hours later to fly the 233 passengers booked on flight LX 6 to Chicago.
