Singapore Airlines is based in Singapore with its hub located at Changi Airport. The airline dates back to Mai 1, 1947 when „Malayan Airways Limited“ flew its first flight from Singapore-Kallang via Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh to Penang.

Following political disagreements between Malaysia and Singapore, Malaysian Airways was split into two separate companies. Malaysian Airline System was formed on the Malaysian side and Singapore Airlines was founded in Singapore.
